We have spent a lot of this weekend on wedding related tasks which annoyingly I can't share with you, but I thought it has been a long time since an update so if you can cope without pictures I can let you know what where we have got to.
Table runners
I got my sewing machine out this weekend and got started on the table runners, 5 down 14 to go! We had a bit of a panic when we thought we had bought too little material and so wasted a good 10 minutes plotting how to get someone in Ghana to find more of the exact same kind and get it over to us. Luckily we worked out we would just need to do some joining up of the scraps and we would have enough. Phew!
I really enjoy sewing when it works but I don't have the manual to my machine and think I have been winding the bobbin wrong somehow so it is also really frustrating as I try to figure out how to work the thing, and not ruin any of our precious material. After a bit of googling today I think I know where I am going wrong so hopefully things will be a bit more smooth sailing from here.
I am also planning to make a banner to decorate the bar with and a nice summery dress with the leftover material from the bridesmaids dresses, I'm quite excited about a whole new set of projects but a bit daunted about getting them done in time. I'll share it all with you after the wedding but for now it needs to be a secret!!
Ceremony
We are getting on really well with creating our ceremony, our celebrant is really happy with it and we showed it to Rod's Mum yesterday and she got all teary! No idea how I will manage to get through it without crying, maybe if I practise over and over again?! We have asked one of my university friends and Rodney's sister to do readings and they didn't run away screaming! It is a bit of a daunting task so we were a bit worried about them saying no!! I'm sure they will both be great, we have an idea of ones that we would like but they might pick one as a surprise!
Invites and the Dreaded Guest list
Somehow we have ended up with more people than the venue can hold on the guestlist and too many coming for dinner than the budget allows so there have been a lot of tense discussions this week as we get ready to send out the invites, but I think we are nearly there! The invites themselves are designed, and waiting to be ordered we are just waiting on my Dad letting me know that he is happy with them, we are also putting in a RSVP card with menu choices and finding the right size is proving a bit more difficult. We had to step away from the computer yesterday as it was all getting a bit too much. The aim is it will all be ready to go by the end of the month!!
Hen Night
In planned and everyone is buying their tickets to get here for it. My bridesmaids are organising it and it's a complete surprise, which is really exciting. I don't really have a clue what we will do, but I have dropped some big hints. I am also planning a trip to the big smoke for the Any Other Woman Hen Do in March the more I read of Any Other Woman the more awesome I think they are, and as we had planned a trip down south for around that time I am going to put my big girls pants on and go meet some new people EEK!! I think there are cocktails and tutu's planned, it sounds fab!!
Food
We had a second tasting with the caterers as we weren't that keen on the mains we picked the first time round, this time they absolutely rocked, we sampled three mains and it was such a tough choice choosing. There will be a choice for each course, mainly because Rod and I wanted to pick things like fish and duck which we know not everyone likes so we wanted to include another safer option. I'm just hoping it won't be a complete nightmare making sure everybody gets what they asked for.
That's the big things we have been working on, now we are in the New Year it seems ever so close and yet still so far away. 4 months and counting :-)
Yay! It will be so fun to see all of your secret projects after you get married. And once the invitations go out, it is such a relief, because that means most of the big stuff is done. Hopefully you guys will feel that way and have a relatively calm next few months. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah the invites will make things a bit more certain, we will know numbers etc. I can't wait to start getting RSVP's :-)
DeleteAfter the invites we are done with big things so could now get married, have some food and a bit of a party. So everything else is really just fluff :-)
xox
Nodding at so much of this... remember the 'I made something but can't show you it' well! We ended up with too many guests vs the size of our venue too, but it all worked out in the end! (Ok, some tables may have had an extra person squeezed onto them!) x
ReplyDeleteI'm so desperate to share it all!! :-)
DeleteThis is all so exciting :)
ReplyDeleteAbout the guest list, a wedding planner friend told me that you can estimate that 25% of the guests will not be able to come. For us it was true, and for my sister and brother's wedding the number was similar.
I can't wait to see all of your projects. One day.
How exciting, AOW's hen do.
Are you coming to AOW Hen? I'm looking forward to it but a bit scared as well.
Delete25% seems like quite a high number but we have a lot of people travelling so could well work out like that. Then we would have space :-) xox
Oh no, I won-t be able to make it to the AOW hen do I would really like to though lucky you :( I will be in the UK from the 7 to 9 of March but that will be in Crowborough (East Sussex, between London and Brighton).
DeleteI hope everyone you want comes though , you will figure out a way, maybe a cocktail reception? Longer, thinner tables?
I think it will work out fine, it's mostly for people dancing in the evening, so maybe it will just be a bit of a squish xox
