I had bought the material and the pattern about 2 1/2 years ago when I first brought my Mum's sewing machine up to Scotland, but I came across the same problem when I was winding the bobbin so I abandoned it and didn't think about it again. Until last week when I finally found my sewing machine's manual, and worked out how to use it properly.
At that stage I needed to sew the waist band on, put in a zipper and hem it, I was worried about the zipper as when I had read about it online it looked complicated, but although it is slightly wonky I found it much easier than anticipated.
So here it is, all finished and as I wore it to work with my geography teacher cardigan and new boots.
Horrible, awkward pictures, sorry!!
Here it is hanging up as well, maybe you can see it more clearly, even if the flash makes it look dirty!!
Overall I am really pleased with how it turned out, there are a few bits that make it look a bit amateurish but I don't think you can tell unless you are looking closely. The only thing I would change is I would look at the pattern sizing a bit better, I just made it to the size I normally take in a shop, originally I was worried it would be too small because pattern sizes are smaller than regular ones, but maybe I have lost some weight in the last few years because it has ended up a bit too big!!
I also wanted to say TGIF!! This has been a long, stressful week and I am glad to be out of the office for the next few days. We have a jam packed weekend this week which is lovely as we have been hermits through January. We are going for dinner and a ceidlh dance (to check out the wedding band) tonight, I'm out for a girly night drinking cocktails with my besties tomorrow night and on Sunday we are going round to good friends for Sunday lunch. Yummy!!
What are your plans for the weekend? Anybody else made their own clothes? Taken awkward pictures of themselves?
Oh it's lovely!
ReplyDelete(I'm also really jealous of your clothes hanger! Does it cause any damp in the hall?)
Thanks :-)
DeleteWe haven't noticed any problems with damp. They are really popular in Edinburgh so have had them a lot through the years with no problems.
We bought ours online it was only £30 ish, but a pain in the arse to put up

Congrats on the skirt! It looks great. I'm always jealous about people that can make their own clothes. I just feel like I wouldn't be any good at it (thanks 8th grade Home Ec!)Maybe if I happen upon a cheap machine I'll give it a go... Sounds like a fun weekend planned, enjoy!
ReplyDeleteIt looks cute! Way to go! :)
