This weekend we popped into Anthropologie to buy a friend a birthday present and I think we spent close to an hour in there, I was in love with almost everything there, but unfortunately my wallet was not. That said I think there is a lot to get inspiration from in the shop, a lot that we could probably recreate ourselves so here is a round up of the things I loved and some ideas for copying them.
First up was this gorgeous ombre bench, at £628 it is well beyond our budget but we could easily update either our kitchen chairs or my rocking chair.
Next up was these awesome paper mache animal heads, how cool would one of these be in our hallway. They are £58-108 each which is way to much to spend however cool they are; there must be a way of recreating them with newspaper and wallpaper paste, I just can't work out how to get the structure to work with.
My other favourite things are probably less easy to recreate but so gorgeous, like all the crockery, the bed linen and these awesome hooks (£18).
One day maybe I will be a millionaire and our home will be furnished with quirky little things from Anthropologie, but for now I'll need to make do with dreaming.....
Anyone else have an obsession with the store? Americans are things much cheaper in Anthropologie USA? we have 46 hours in NYC, I could spend that shopping :-)

I used to have great success with Anthopologie's sale room – the stuff still isn't cheap cheap, but it doesn't make your eyes water quite so much!
ReplyDeleteYes I got a headband for the wedding from there on Saturday 1/2 price which was great. Haven't had much luck with anything else though. xox
DeleteI'm with Annabel - the sale section is where it's at. I feel like some of it is ridiculously expensive but other items are more reasonable. I'm currently crushing on this cute $8 bowl from them (for the nightstand).
ReplyDeleteOh, and there is an Anthropologie down in Soho... I'm just saying...
I love all the bowls and crockery, I bought my friend one for her birthday.
DeleteWe are staying near Soho, it would be rude not too...... :-)
For the animal heads, could you find an animal head (even a toy) and then decoupage around it maybe? I love/hate anthro. the store in philadelphia is in a really beautiful building, which makes everything dreamier. But i think they are really overpriced. I mostly find myself skipping clothes there and wandering around the home/kitchen areas. I like the soy candles they sell there, too. That said, right before & after christmas they have the best sales. I've scored a few really nice handbags 2 years in a row that way.
ReplyDeleteYes I was thinking about something like that for the animal heads, sure it can be done.
DeleteI saw a beautiful dress in there on Saturday and thought about buying it for honeymoon until I saw the price. After that just focused on the home and kitchen stuff. xox
I am very curious about Anthropologie, have never been in a shop, but it all looks so dreamy. Everything.
ReplyDeleteYou can totally make that bench, I really like it. And those bunny doorknobs are cute, though I would not know how to replicate them.
The animals could be done... you just have to learn papier maché.... I think it's not that hard (it's like making a piñata out of a balloon and then painting over it).
I did papier mache as a kid, so it can't be too touch just need to find the right shape to do it over.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a gorgeous shop, but so expensive!!
