I finally finished my hazel dress that I started long before the wedding in the hope I could take it on honeymoon with me. Well that never worked out and two and a half months after returning from honeymoon I finally got it finished!
The dress is the hazel dress from Colette, and the material is leftover from our bridesmaid dresses we got made in Ghana.
This dress was a bit of a struggle from start to finish if I'm honest. Firstly I found the gathering around the waist difficult, I found the thread would snap as I pulled it, so I had to do it again with stronger thread. Then the invisible zipper was a pain, I was so happy with the majority of it, but right at the bottom I messed up and you can see it. I lost my patience trying to get it to work and now it looks messy. The final thing was the fitting around my boobs, it was gaping until I added some darts to the neckline.
Luckily the pattern covers a lot of these little mistakes and I really love the material, but right now I don't love the dress. It also feels like a very summery dress so it's annoying I have been so tardy. Here are some more pictures, what do you think?
I forgot to mention it has pockets, you have to love a dress with pockets.... Right?
I think I would make it again, as I think I lot of the issues I had was from inexperience, but right now I'm in no rush to as I just bought the Colette sewing handbook which is packed full of new patterns to try!
Any one else made the hazel dress? Or anything else by Colette? Did you have any fitting issues?
