I've mentioned before that our photographers were wonderful and one of the things I loved about their package was they didn't include an album instead they gave us a pen drive with all our photos on it. They were quite open about the fact that they could never offer it at a reasonable price and there were lots of good options to do it ourselves online. I know its not for everyone but I liked the flexibility that gave us and I also really enjoyed designing the album.
On their recommendation we went with Blurb to make our album and it was such a smooth process and the album is such good quality I wanted to write a recommendation for any of you out there with pictures still to sort out. I am also planning a smaller honeymoon album from them at some point as well.
To get started you download booksmart from the website and then pick the kind of album you would like, we went for 30cm X 30 cm with pictures on the cover and high quality paper. Don't worry too much though you can change your mind without too much hassle.
Within booksmart you then just drag and drop your photos into picture boxes, there is also the opportunity to add text if you want. There are a lot of layouts already programmed but if what you want isn't there just design it and add it as a layout to use later in the book. I loved that there were options for lots of pictures on one page for things like all the wee wedding details. Or you could go for a whole two page spread for the important pictures, the programme showed the print cut off lines so you know if someone's face is going to be lost in the binding, always helpful.
Once you have all the photos the way you want them in the album (you can view a print preview to check) all that remains is to pay and arrange shipping. I would recommend signing up for blurb then waiting a wee while to order your book as I have had a number of money off emails since joining. Our album had 100 pages and a couple of plain sheets at the front and came to £73.25, but we had a 20% off from an email so with shipping it came to £63.50. It's not a tiny sum of money but compared to some quotes I had when we were looking for photographers and given the quality of the finished book I am very pleased with it.
Here are some photos of the finished article.
We have put it on our map table along with another wedding album from Rodney's Uncle and last year in pictures in another photo book (much poorer quality).
* This post wasn't sponsored or anything by Blurb I just thought they were pretty cool and thought it could help those of you who got married this summer and haven't done anything with your photos yet.
